How We Test Every KeHarbor Doll Before It Ships

KeHarbor Doll AcademyUpdated 18 October 20267 min read

Most doll problems are visible in the first ten minutes of careful inspection. The problem is that inspection happens either at the factory – where volume pressure wins – or at the buyer, who has no comparison point.

Our process moves the inspection to a fixed checklist between those two points.

Quick answer

Every doll passes ten checks before dispatch: material batch verification, mould seam inspection, channel smoothness, skeleton flex through full range, surface inspection for bubbles and thin patches, colour consistency, weight verification, dimension verification, cleaning, and packaging integrity. A doll that fails is reworked or replaced – it does not ship.

1. Material and batch

Every unit is logged against its material batch. This matters for two reasons: silicone and TPE behave differently from batch to batch, and if a fault recurs we can trace it to a specific production run rather than inspecting blindly.

2. Mould seams

We run a finger along every mould line – thighs, neck, underarms, channel entrances. A seam that can be felt as a ridge will become a tear point within months, because friction concentrates there.

Correctable seams are sanded and re-finished. Seams that are deep, or that cross a joint, fail the unit.

HTM2120. Mould seams are checked by hand along every joint line – the most reliable defect test there is.

3. Channel inspection

Each channel is checked in both directions with a gloved finger:

  • smoothness throughout the full depth;
  • no grit, release agent residue or sharp mould flash;
  • no thin patches visible under light;
  • entrance rim intact with no pinches.

This single check prevents the most common early failure: a tear at the entrance caused by a rough edge.

What fails a unit

Check Fails when Action
Channel smoothness Ridge, grit or sharp flash Rework or replace
Channel depth Below listing spec Remove from order
Entrance rim Pinched or thin Replace
Skeleton flex Clicks, grinding or hard stop Replace
Surface bubbles Any open bubble on a high-wear area Rework or replace
Weight More than 5 percent under spec Weigh and re-verify listing

4. Skeleton flex test

On articulated models, every joint is moved through its full range once. Three things fail a unit:

  • Grinding or clicking – internal joint damage.
  • Hard stops short of the stated range – manufacturing misalignment.
  • Skin pulling at a joint – the material is too thin over the mechanism.

Stiffness alone is not a failure. New joints are stiff and loosen with use.

5. Surface inspection

Under a raking light, the inspector looks for:

  • open bubbles in the skin;
  • translucent thin patches, especially over breasts and hips;
  • colour inconsistency across a single unit;
  • release-agent residue, visible as a gloss that does not match the rest.

6. Weight and dimensions

Every unit is weighed and measured. Weight matters because it is the specification buyers rely on most and the hardest to verify from a listing.

If a unit is materially lighter than the listing states, that is a signal of a core or material problem, not a bonus.

7. Cleaning and dusting

Before packing, each unit is wiped, channels flushed and dried, and the exterior dusted with renewing powder where the material requires it. A doll that arrives clean can be used after a single rinse.

GXG2110 packed after cleaning. Units are shipped dry and dusted, not fresh from the mould.

8. Packaging

Plain outer box, no branding, no product names on the label. Inside: foam support at the joints, the unit flat or lightly supported, and a care card.

The sender name on the shipping label is neutral. Shipping documents describe contents generically.

Why each stage exists

Stage What it prevents If skipped
Mould seam check Tears at ridge lines Early channel failure
Channel inspection Entrance tears Returns within 60 days
Skeleton flex Joint failure under load Doll that cannot hold a pose
Weight check Under-spec cores Buyer cannot trust any spec
Dry before packing Mould and odour in transit Unusable on arrival

Where faults actually come from

Almost every fault we see traces to one of three sources:

  1. Mould flash at the channel entrance – the most common, and entirely preventable.
  2. Thin material over a joint – a moulding issue that only shows under flex.
  3. Moisture packed in – a simple process failure that ruins an otherwise perfect unit.

All three are catchable before dispatch. That is the entire argument for inspecting at this stage rather than at the factory or at the buyer.

In short: every unit is opened, flexed, weighed, cleaned and repacked before it ships. If you want photos of your specific unit before dispatch, ask – we can do that because the box is already open.

Frequently asked questions

What do you check on each doll before shipping?

Ten checks: material batch, mould seams, channel smoothness, skeleton flex through full range, surface bubbles and thin patches, colour consistency, weight against spec, dimensions against the listing, cleaning, and packaging integrity.

Can I request photos of my doll before it ships?

Yes. Every order is opened and inspected regardless, so we can photograph the actual unit before dispatch on request. Ask our team after ordering with your order number.

What happens if a doll fails inspection?

It does not ship. It is reworked if the fault is cosmetic and correctable, or replaced from the next batch. We do not ship a failing unit with a discount as compensation.
